Trouble changing imageset

Postby lokistorm » June 25th 2012, 7:21 am

Hello,

I want to change a few of the icons in the default imageset for my forum: www.lawstudenthub.co.uk

I thought it would be as simple as going to my file manager, finding the default forum style, finding the icon I want to change and replacing it with an identically named new image. But this does not work - despite the file being completely replaced (I tested it on the 'user online' image icon), the forum and everything else still displays the original image icon and not my replacement.

How do I changed individual imageset icons easily?

Secondly, I have had trouble installing PHPBB's automod tool. I upload all the files from the 'upload' folder to my root /public_html and went to the /install web address - but it didn't come up with anything related to automod.

Please help!

Generally just replacing the image as you attempted should work. When the old image continues to appear, that usually indicates your browser is loading the old image from the local cache instead of downloading the new image. Clearing your browser's cache or reloading by pressing Ctrl + F5 should get the new image to appear. If not, you can change icons by uploading the new icon with a new filename and editing the imageset.cfg file in the imageset folder. In that file, you'd replace the old icon filename with the new icon filename. Then upload the edited .cfg file and refresh the imageset in the board's Admin Control Panel.

On Automod... what did appear when you went to the install address? It sounds like you did upload the files to the correct location.

Hello, thanks for your reply.

You were right, I think my browser just loaded the old cache. Replaced images from the imageset folder seem to appear now.

However, I am really confused. On my forum (as posted in the original post), the swirly icon which appears on all forums and posts is exactly the same regardless of whether it is next to a sticky, locked topic, read forum, unread forum etc. If you look on my forum you will see I have made stickies and locked topics, but the swirly icon next to them remains the same. This is odd as in the imageset there a variety of different swirly icons for locked topics (basically the swirly icon with a small padlock), stickies, announcements etc. Also they all seem to be black and white and not blue as per the forum.

I am not too fussed about having a universal icon if that is the case here, but I don't know where to find this universal swirly icon in my imageset folder so I can change it to the image I want.

Also, regarding automod, it just went to the install page you would get if you put the install folder into your root folder and went to www.yourwebsite.com/install - so nothing about automod, just telling you everything is installed, etc.

Thanks.

From looking at some of the files on your site, it seems that the template files in this particular style don't use the imageset's various topic icons. The swirly icon appears to be coming from the style's theme/images/style3/header_logo.png file.

That's an unusual set up. If you want to make the template files use the icons instead of this swirly image, try finding this in the styles/modestus4/template/viewforum_body.html
Code: Select all
			<dl>
                                                        <dt class="posts_container">
                                <img style="padding-right:7px;" src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/style3/header_logo.png" />

                            </dt>

And replacing it with this{
Code: Select all
			<dl class="icon" style="background-image: url({topicrow.TOPIC_FOLDER_IMG_SRC}); background-repeat: no-repeat;">

On Automod, it sounds like you might have uploaded phpBB's original install/ directory instead of the new install/ directory that comes with Automod.

Hey,

I did as advised, but:

1) If you look on this sub-forum for example (http://www.lawstudenthub.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=43), the new imageset swirly icons have distorted the forum layout. Is there anyway of fixing this? I had already heavily edited the original template with the help of Patrick on this forum, which may explain the weird setup/strange results. Here is the original thread: help-with-style-vt78176.html

2) The swirly icons on the forum's index page appear to have stayed the same, which is strange as the ones in the imageset are all black and white. Is there anyway of finding the locaton for the swirly icons on the forum's index page so they can be changed? Or will they definitely be part of the imageset and I just haven't found them?

Thanks

In the theme's rt.css file, you should be able to find this:
Code: Select all
li.row dt {
    padding:7px 0;
}

Change it to:
Code: Select all
li.row dt {
    padding:7px 0 0 60px;
}

This should indent the text to move it off the swirly icon. You may want to change the 60px value to tweak the amount of indentation.

For the index page icons, you'll need to edit forumlist_body.html. The same instructions I gave above for viewforum_body.html can be applied to that file [edit: Actually, no; this was an error on my part, see my later post below for the correct edit]. Currently, it is doing the same thing viewforum_body was doing prior to that edit; using an image from the theme rather than files from the imageset.

Hi, I am afraid that hasn't changed it (see: http://www.lawstudenthub.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=43). Strangely, when I visit the index page - all the rows and columns are messed up, but when I go to a sub-forum and then back to the index, the index has fixed itself (this didn't happen before the change).

Sorry, I think my forum deviated a lot from the original template, which is why it might be difficult to change. You can see all the changes I made with Patrick in the phpbbhacks thread I posted. Has that got something to do with why it is proving difficult?

Try reloading the page - I do see see a change on the viewforum page on my end. Your browser might have the old stylesheet cached; reloading should correct it if that is the case. If you see don't see a change, try clearing the cache for this style.

I see what you mean about the index alignment. Try making this change; it should give you a consistent look between the index and the viewforum page.

In forumlist_body.html, find:
Code: Select all
			<dl>
                         <!-- IF not forumrow.S_IS_LINK -->
            <dt class="posts_container">
                                <img style="padding-right:7px;" src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/style3/header_logo.png" />
             </dt>
            <!-- ENDIF -->
				<dt title="{forumrow.FORUM_FOLDER_IMG_ALT}">

Replace it with:
Code: Select all
			<dl class="icon" style="background-image: url({forumrow.FORUM_FOLDER_IMG_SRC}); background-repeat: no-repeat;">
				<dt title="{forumrow.FORUM_FOLDER_IMG_ALT}">

I have only skimmed over that other thread, but I think most of the changes made there have little to do with these issues. This particular template just didn't have the forum imageset icon support out of the box, so most of the issue here is just a matter of adding that back in and then tweaking the display.

I can't say that I do, but I do a lot of work with forums. There are many that I help out with once and then don't see again for a long, long, long time.

That works! I just ran CCleaner which I will do if we change anything else and it doesn't show - was my browser.

Just a couple more things:

1) Before we made the changes, between the coloured swirly icon and the forum title there was a vertical separator line. This seems to have disappeared now. Is there anyway I can get it back? If it is a huge effort to get it back then I will just leave it. I have attached a screenshot showing the original separator line.

2) I want to remove some areas of the forum where the coloured swirly icon remains:

- When you view a forum, the swirly icon next to the forum title ('Law Student Hub Announcements' in this case): http://www.lawstudenthub.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=2

- Most of the swirly icons displayed next to headings in the post view (I count three in this post): http://www.lawstudenthub.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10

- Other areas including the user control panel, PMs, etc.

Is there an easy way for me to remove swirly icons where I don't want them? And will the headings automatically move to the left and line up where the swirly icon used to be? Or will I have to do this manually for each one?

Thanks for your help - greatly appreciated.
