I'd like to know if there is such a hack that will allow members to enter info on a phpBB based spreadsheet or database? If not, is there anything out there that is free?

Hey Jay-Jay,

Thanks for posting. When you say a phpBB based spreadsheet, could you elaborate a bit?

I appreciate your time.

Thanks,

Patrick

Yes, what I mean that it can be integrated with phpBB2, so I can set permissions to which members can add to this spreadsheet.

Or at least, a spreadsheet that I can install on my site which requires it's own database. I have seen others online, but they host it on their own site. And that's not what I want.

Here is an example what I am looking for. Perhaps it's more of a list chart than a spreadsheet or database. I need something that can be Ascended or Descended by the following categories within a chart:

Artist - Title - BPM - Genre - Time

And my members can enter more data for this chart and it's always alphabetized by at least one category (that I set)

Hey Jay-Jay,

Thanks for the reply.

It sounds like you are looking for something like Google Docs for phpBB (tied into the phpBB permissions system). Does that sound about right?

Thanks,

Patrick

Hmm, perhaps. What I need is like a page where I can define what data to enter. Then my special members would be able to enter that data. And then it can be seen by everyone (but not edited). The data would look like the memberlist page, where you can then ascend or descend the list by Artist, Title, BPM, Time, Key, and Year. And it would also break up into several pages, so it's not all in one page. Know what I mean?

Here is an example of such page:

Artist - Title - BPM - Time - Key- Year
Madonna - Into the Groove - 116 - 4:53 - Cm - 1985
Prince - Kiss - 111 - 3:46 - Am - 1986

Hey Jay-Jay,

Thanks for the reply. I believe I do understand.

Is the number of "special members" going to be a small list? The reason I ask is that I wonder if you would be better served by using a script dedicated to this, rather than trying to integrate something with the phpBB member system.

It might just be better to use a collaborative document tool and then invite those few special members to it while making it viewable to all.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks,

Patrick

Yes, I guess so. It would be like a small group that would be in charge of updating this database. Do you have any suggestions as to where get the script?

Hey Jay-Jay,

Thanks for the reply. Cool. Honestly, I don't. There must be something. The first thought was a Wiki (which you can restrict the number of editors to), but that might give them access to editing the structure of the page, rather than just entering data into fields. Still, Wiki's do have backups, which makes it easy to restore if someone goes nuts. And if the number of people is small and trusted, it's not such a big concern. Just an idea.

Thanks,

Patrick

A year have pasted - is this request still needed ?
A posible solution involves these 3 steps

1. install extra permission mod
2. make a new "viewlistfile" - like memberlist
3. make a input file witch allow modify the fields

the extra permission mod is needed to control who may edit/view the "spreadsheet"
