Spambot countermeasures

Hi all.

I'm having a nightmare keeping on top of spam - I have to delete at least 20 members and their spam posts every week. I've tried the different counter measures in PHPBB but nothing seems to stop them.

I've tried the Q&A countermeasure but it never shows the questions, just a box to enter an answer. Has anyone else had a problem with it?

What does everyone else do about spam?

Dave the 3.0.8 Q+A Captcha is currently having UNPRECEDENTED success against spambots

I mean it is AWESOME

it is tricky to set up and it relies on your STYLES being 3.0.8 too

so if you have old styles like wowred, wowblue then because they are simply not 3.0.8, you'll be wasting your time

once you have the questions showing up in 3.0.8 compliant styles (e.g prosilver, subsilver2, subsilver3, supernova) then spambots just STOP registering

Thanks for the replies. My style is quite old, but I've modified it quite heavily so don't really want to change it. Is there something simple I can do to make it work with my current style? Surely it's just printing some text on the page?

I still have issues with this. I have tried both Q&A and PeopleSign but still I am having to delete an average of 10 users and 20 spam posts per day. Would this suggest it's real people spamming the board as opposed to spam bots?

It is certainly possible that some (or, perhaps, all) are real people spamming. It's not just bots, after all.
