Right Click on Links, Add Them to Word Censor

Hey all,

I am planning to use Censor Block and one of the ways that I make use of it is to block links from being posted again. I was thinking it might be cool if I, as an administrator, was able to hover over posted links and be able to, in one click, add that link to the word censor list.

For example, if someone posts spammersite.com and I hover over it, I get a little box that says "Block Link" or similar and then, when clicked, the site automatically adds *spammersite.com* (with asterisks for wildcard) to the word censor list. This should happen without the page needing to refresh.

If anyone feels strongly about it, I'd love to see it created!

I'm thinking of adding this into a new censor hack I'm working on. The new hack is going to be a sort of all-purpose censor add-on, merging Censor Block, Word Censor List, and some new stuff that makes censors more powerful and useful. This might fit right into it.

If I do add this feature to my new Censor Suite, there will likely be some integration with a third-party Javascript. It would save me a lot of dev time that would be wasted on reinventing existing technologies and overcoming limitations of phpBB's BBCode system. I'm thinking of Mootools, since I'm already familiar with that and know it has the features needed. Fortunately, Google has a hosted version of Mootools, so I wouldn't have to distribute it with the hack.

Hello I think that would be a fun mod to make and wouldn't take a ton of time & effort for an effective result.

Anyways I don't want to step on your toes Thoul or anything but if you're interested I could create a working prototype for the system Patrick requested. I'm more familiar with jQuery but this would be as good as an experience as any to give mootools a shot. From there you could change it how you see fit or adapt it into your censor mod.

You're welcome to develop your own version of the system Patrick suggested, of course. I won't look at when considering this feature for my mod, though. My preference is to develop modifications independently of what others might release. Most of this hack is charted out in my head already anyway. Just a matter of typing it up and testing, really.

I'm leaning toward coding for both jQuery and Mootools, with ACP options to select which is used and to adapt for using a locally hosted library or the Google remotely hosted libraries. That would reduce the bandwidth needed, especially if someone is already using one of these libraries. There's no need to load jQuery twice or such.

The all-purpose censor hack you describe sounds really interesting and exciting (as excited as one can get about word censoring, that is, hehe). I can't wait to see it!

I figure that a feature like this would be optional, anyway, as some people will probably prefer to just use Censor Block without the pop-up, etc.

You're definitely welcome to write your own hack or customization for this, as well, Jay. There is often multiple hacks with similar functionality - different approaches are good and can be helpful and valuable.

Well, in turns out that the Mootools library hosted on Google lacks some of the features needed for this, so I may not include the feature after all. Or at least not in the first version.
