Hi, I have been roped into a lawsuit (defamation) from user posts of a forum...
Long story short, 1 of the claims refers that notifications were an uncommon alert mechanism on the forum (phpbV2 forum template) and that the administrators maliciously activated notifications to forum menbers - without permission or request.

I am aware that notifications are a, user/poster setting, the same applies on this page I am on now, writng this post, and can not be accomplished at admin level, and were always that way on my site/forum.

So, I need to prove the claimant wrong.
Are there mods or hacks (for v2) that could accomplish this scenario? If so how do I prove they were never used and that all notifications were requested....

Thanks

Hello and welcome, khickss.

This is a question that can be answered in various ways (code examinations, etc.), but it must be answered with respect to the court and their requirements.

With that in mind, the best thing to do would be to check with qualified counsel that is educated on technology, programming and/or the internet and ask them what they feel would satisfy that burden and then work to provide that, if you can.

This community is not a provider of qualified legal advice. So, I recommend that you allow your counsel to guide you on this matter.

That said, in the U.S., if you (and those responsible for the site) did not post the material, you would likely be protected by the Communications Decency Act. I see that you are in the U.K., so that limits my understanding.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks,

Patrick
