Just reading through trying to understand how to get started.
Amazing amount of information out here.
I have a lot to read and learn.
Is there a 'best practices' in getting started? I have some simple questions, like licensing of styles, but can't figure out where that is. Are all items on this site free, even for commercial? What is the proper etiquette for using what I download?
I will spend a lot of time learning, but am trying to get ramped up and don't want to start in a hole.
Appreciate someone telling me where to go, just please be nice. javascript:emoticon(' ')
Thank You

In the docs folder that ships with phpBB you will find some useful information including a HTML file called README
Here you will find links to other useful information about phpBB
phpBB is opensource software released under the GPL. A link to explain it can be found in section 8 of the README file.
Welcome to phpBBHacks and I hope the above information is useful to you and if not, dont hesitate to come back and ask. _________________ ~HG~

Hello HG,
Thank you for the note. However, that is not quite what I was looking for.
I have read GNU, GPL, GPL 3.0 before. (Real yawners, but needed to be done)
However, as GNU.org says: Free Speech, not Free Beer.
Is phpbbhacks.com an open bar?
Thanx
Jim

Ok, I am dense sometimes. I reread with fresh eyes. I think I get it.
Open Bar

Hello and welcome, JNRII.
These are good questions and I appreciate you asking them.
Styles that are free to download for phpBB are, generally speaking, free for you to use and adjust for your needs. The same would go for any hack or download on this site, as well.
When it comes to best practices, the main one would be to preserve the author's credit link at the bottom, if any. The same goes for any major hack that does the same.
I hope that this helps, in addition to what ~HG~ said. If we can help further, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
