Hi,
we are currently looking at revamping our site http://www.zoocrew.eu .

It is entirely based on phpbb3 and it would be great to get some impartial feedback on which areas we could improve on.

Thanks very much already for your time to take a look.

I am not sure why you would want to revamp it?

The colour scheme is great but then being an Aussie and the colours used representing the Australian Sporting colours it is no wonder I am biased hahahaha

I dont see any Australian Zoo's listed so if you are interested here are a couple of links to two of our biggest.

thanks very much ~HG~

the colour scheme we were not going to change, it fits quite nicely and we like it a lot, there are other zoo sites already that have 'adapted' their colours and they look quite similar to ours now... so it appears we didnt go wrong there.

maybe snazz it up a bit? make it jump out more, e.g. the navigation bar in the overall header and maybe add some background pattern.

what do you think?

I dont have a problem with the navigation in fact I think with navigation, simple is best but if you do want to change it then I suggest using Tabs such as you see in this phpBB2 version of http://rodneyangell.com/forum/portal.php

I haven't yet been able to adapt the tabs to work with phpBB3 so if you can manage to do it please let me know.

The theme used at rodneyangell.com is called Inspiration and they have a gopld version which may or may not fit in with your current design. You can see it at http://styles.ggweb-fr.com/

Other than that I would consider changing the look of the forum by removing the yellow from the index tables and elsewhere and replacing it with a backgrond consisting of the paw print you use on the home page.

Incorporating the paw print into the other pages may give a better feel as well.

Another bit of advice is to make the Logo more appealing if that is possible by using it to "fill" the header more if you know what I mean.

I am not sure that I have been of any help but have taken a second look to see what changes could possibly be made that would give you some improvement on a design that really does not need it.

thanks very much again i really appreciate you taking the time to take not one but two looks

wrt to the yellow of index tables, do you mean the forum list background?

The header we identified as well with the need of 'growing'.

Again, thanks very much for your comments.

The forum list background is what I am referring to as you mouse over it it changes color.

If you have a look at your home page it is a nice clean looking white with the simple paw print image on the page which makes it quite effective but when you go to the forum you are "choked" by the mass of yellow.

To me it is too much yellow and it would be better if it matched the home page by being either plain white or white with the paw print background on in it which I think would be quite effective for the forum as well.

By using the paw print on ALL pages this could become a second logo for the site if you know what I mean.

Thanks for posting this, lefty74.

It's definitely an attractive site in many ways. The one thing I would say, in the area of suggestions, is tied to the icons, just because they appear to be for the default phpBB color scheme. Give them the green trim that matches with your site, if you can, or make some sort of adjustment there, just so that that detail doesn't stand out.

Good luck with your site.

Patrick

thanks very much ~HG~ and Patrick. I really appreciate your comments.

i will have to study css a bit more to see how i can best implement ur comments.

i totally agree on the icons, they have been on the to do list from the very beginning but there were always other things to do first... this time it will happen

Thanks again

It has been sometime since I took a look at your site Heiko but I can see you have implemented a number of changes as suggested and it is now looking very nice indeed.

Well done!!!
