Hi there,

My website is child-friendly (13+), but there is a single forum that is 18+ that is open to the public.
I don't want to have to add 20 birthday hacks that force people to enter in their birthdate, or make a group and various other complicated solutions.

What would be absolutely perfect and ideal for my forum would be, when you click the link to enter into that forum on my board, you are first taken to a page where it is like the registration page. You must click a link saying 'I agree' or 'I am at least 18 years of age', and only when clicking that link in the agreement, will they be redirected into that forum.

Assistance would be greatly greatly GREATLY appreciated.

Please advise,
Thanks.

Making a group for user's under 18 and not giving them permission to view read or reply in that forum would be the simplest way to go about it.

It would ensure that they cant access the forum at all.

Your way relies on them clicking the correct link but we all know they will (be tempted) to click the over 18 link anyway.

I have been told that exact same thing on another site I asked for help. I already know that. But that's how it is on most websites. You click a button or a link that affirms that you agree by a specific terms of service. It's even on newgrounds.com when you click "mature" at the top: It reads - The page you are about to access contains material that is unsuitable for minors. You must be 18 or older to proceed.

Then gives the buttons, "Yes, I am 18 or older." & "No, I will not proceed."

Even in the registration for phpBB forums you have to click a button for an agreement saying you're truly 13. Honesty can only go so far and my forum is way too big for me to do something so tedious. The simplest thing would be doing as I described.

It's looking like I'll have to figure something else out myself if at all possible. However, I appreciate your advice.

How about adding the birthday mod. make it manditory to insert date before the registration process can continue.

then add the birthday add-one which makes it so that a user has to be a spesific age to view the public forum.

You'll need the extreme styles MOD, but that's really not editing anythig, more like adding files and it helps your forum load a bit faster anyway.
