I want to require users to enter Company during registration, or maybe an address field or something would work. I've come across a phpBB version 2 hack for requiring some address info, but I assume this won't install into version 3.

Does anybody have any hacks to require at least one single text field in user registration process? Or know how to modify v2 hack for this? Thanks!

Hey Jboshow,

Welcome to phpBBHacks.com.

With phpBB 3, you can create custom profile fields right out of the box, without any hacks. Here is how you do it.

After logging in to your admin panel, select the "Users and Groups" tab. On the left menu, click the "Custom profile fields" option.

On this page, there is a text box next to a drop down menu and a "Create new field" button. So, if you wanted to create a field for "Company", enter "Company" in the text field, select "Single text field" in the drop down and click "Create new field".

On this page, you can configure the field. You'll want to look at this, enter a description, etc. but the field that will really concern you is one under "Visibility option". You want to select the ratio button next to "Required field". This will force the member to fill the field in.

After you are finished, click "Profile type specific options". On this page, you can configure the size of the field and what triggers validation. Then click "Save" and you're done!

If you have any questions, please feel free.

Thanks,

Patrick

Man! Thanks Patrick. How simple is that. I look around the CP for over an hour and couldn't find it. Looked thru the FAQ, nothing. I'm glad it is built in, I was worried. Oh, by the way, I tried it, worked great!
