I was wondering if there was a way to make it so that if I'm using a slightly larger emoticon, that the placement could be made lower for it so the vertical center of the emoticon is in line with the vertical center of the text?

When I've inserted that kind of image into my message on some other forum software with img tags, it doesn't seem to jack them up all high like the way it displays here and on my forum:

Is there something that can be done about this?

sure.

Code:
------OPEN-------

includes/bbcode.php

-------FIND--------

         $repl[] = '<img src="'. $board_config['smilies_path'] . '/' . $smilies[$i]['smile_url'] . '" alt="' . $smilies[$i]['emoticon'] . '" border="0" />';

-------REPLACE WITH---------

         $repl[] = '<img src="'. $board_config['smilies_path'] . '/' . $smilies[$i]['smile_url'] . '" alt="' . $smilies[$i]['emoticon'] . '" border="0" align="absmiddle" />';

-------SAVE AND CLOSE------

Thank you for asking that question. It is something that has bugged me about phpBB for a long time now.
