Hello,
Thank you for visiting phpBBHacks.com. Today, our site turns nine years old.
As I sit here pondering what to write, I'm reflecting upon the last 9 years of not only this site, but also my life and the lives of others that I have met through this site. Time marches on and I wonder what the future holds. I don't know.
But, what I do know is that what we have done here at phpBBHacks.com, over these last 9 years, is special. It's an indelible part of the history of phpBB itself and a shining example for other open source resources to draw from.
The first database of phpBB hacks and code modifications. I created it because I, myself, as a phpBB user wanted it. Since day 1, a focus on author respect above the GPL, requiring permission for every download listed in our database, leading to us becoming the largest source of phpBB related downloads granted with author permission. A friendly and helpful support community. We - this community - have helped hundreds of thousands of people - if not more.
I think about the challenges we faced, especially in the earlier years. People who had authority and used it to try to limit and harm the potential of third party resources, such as this one. The repercussions of which can still be felt today, though lessened due to the good work of others. I love open source, but like anything else, it can also be a political game at times.
Nonetheless, we focused. We put our head down and we spent time on the two groups that mattered to us: phpBB users and phpBB hack, style and graphic authors. And I'm proud of what we have accomplished here, together. It's a big deal, it really is. Thank you.
Thank you to everyone who has served on our staff, helping to maintain this community and weather the challenges. This includes Jeremy Rogers (Thoul), Frank Clemens (Acid), Brandon Levan (Triumvirate), John McKernan (JohnMcK), Vincent Grouls (FB-ke), Joshua Pohlman (html-n-beyond), Shea Layton (JSLayton), Marc Phillpott (McPhilly), Tanner Smith (Tanner), Jay Jackson (Zarath), Rick Howland (Ricky_Racer), Richard Fitzgerald (fitz), ErDrRon, Scott Stubblefield (Superman), Ryan Zieno (Truestar), Meik Sievertsen (Acyd Burn), Billy Sauls (Nivisec), Dimitri Seitz (Dwing), Jared W.
