Longer Version: For the past few weeks, hack and style authors have submitted their new creations to the phpBBHacks.com database in order to be considered for inclusion in the phpBBHacks.com Idol competition. From those entries, we randomly selected the participants using the method described in the initial announcement. Those participants were randomly placed in a head to head format in poll threads here on the forums (listed above).
You are welcome to vote in as many or few polls as you would like, but we encourage you to vote in as many as you are comfortable. The more valid votes - the better. Who you vote for is up to you. You can vote for the download that you think is more useful, you can vote for who you want to win or you can vote based on some other metric of your choosing. In order to vote, you must have registered on our forums by July 16, 2008. Any votes made by those registered on July 17 or later will be deleted before the final results are revealed.
Voting for this round will be closed on July 21 at 8 PM ET. Please do not post your votes in this or any thread.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to PM me or reply to this thread. Please do not post a reply on the poll threads.
As a reminder for any authors who have been selected, please do not attempt to artificially inflate our vote totals in any way. This includes but is not limited to trading votes, encouraging people to vote indiscriminately (publicly or privately), mass mailing/posting and any other behavior that could lead to results being artificially skewed. You are welcome to mention on your own site or elsewhere that you are nominated, but please do not encourage anyone to engage in any devious practices or inflate our voting totals in an unnatural way. Individuals found to be participating in any of these activities will be disqualified from winning either prize and will be completely removed from the tournament.
You can see that some authors are facing off against themselves! This is just how the random pairings worked out. However, there is a great advantage in this: no matter what happens, those authors are guaranteed a spot in the next round, when the field is cut from 16 to 8. Good luck to everyone.
For full rules, details on the tournament format and other information, please check out the initial announcement.
For fun, here are the current brackets for the tournament format:
Once again, here are the great prize packages that we will be giving to our two winners:

Finally
I realize that this competition created some excitement as far as creating phpBB 3 hacks and styles and submitting them to our database and I'm very happy about that. But, most downloads in our database were submitted without their being any prizes at stake and that will continue to be the case, I'm sure. Though we are only able to reward two authors (and I am delighted to be able to do so), I greatly appreciate every author who has contributed to the phpBB community through phpBBHacks.com. Thank you.
Good luck to everyone who has been selected to participate in the tournament! I can't wait to award the prizes.
Thank you to Chitika, W3 Markup, SitePoint, Blog World & New Media Expo, AMACOM, O'Reilly, Apress and Packt for agreeing to sponsor this event.
Thank you for reading and for your interest in the competition. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
