I wanted to share an idea for something I would find useful and would love to see written, in this form, and released in a stable fashion (if it's not already).
Basically, drawing inspiration from the Facebook and Google+ news feeds (their homepages, which show updates from your friends), I would like to have a similar system for phpBB and the phpBB based content.
What is displayed could be based on various factors. Popularity over the past 48 hours or 7 days, content from the people you have marked as a friend with phpBB's friend system (new threads they have started, replies they have made, etc.) and more.
Optionally, this could also include a slick phpBB-based "like" system included, one that works as well as Facebook's button and likes would factor into the display of content. But, I view that as an option because many communities won't be popular enough to get much traction out of it.
I think that this sort of display of content could lead to better engagement, for some communities, than the standard list of forums or portal approach.
