phpBB 3 Reaches Gold Status!

Hello,

Today marks the long anticipated release of phpBB 3. It has left release candidates and entered gold status with the phpBB 3.0.0 release. We have it up for download on phpBBHacks.com now. I would like to congratulate the phpBB development team on the release.

With phpBB 3 out the door, our support of it will now increase. But, phpBB 2 will not be left behind. Far from it, phpBB 2 will still be actively supported and will remain in the forefront as phpBB 3 gains popularity. Even then, you can look forward to phpBB 2 being a big part of this site for well into the future. It's widely used and Meik has stated that the phpBB 2.0.x string will be maintained in that security issues will be fixed, if they arise.

Since phpBB 3 is no longer in beta or release candidate status, as of now, we will no longer be accepting any new phpBB 3 downloads into our database that are, themselves, in a pre-stable release status. All current downloads that fall into this category will remain, however, for the time being.

The GOLD release version is a lot different to the original BETA versions and the php team have done a lot of work over almost 18 months since the first BETA release to make it an Administrator friendly forum.

I hope and wish the php development team take a well earnt break over the Christmas/New year holidays and sit back and give themselves a well deserved pat on the back for a job well done.
