I've set up a forum and I need to know how to do it all properly.
I've managed to figure out some basics for myself, such as setting permissions, ranks, changing forum styles etc.
I don't know what version of phpBB I'm using though, as there appears to be a few different versions, which I noticed whilst browsing for hacks.
My next question is this, how do you install/apply hacks to your own forum? I've read the thread about that but I still don't really understand it.
Could someone dumb this down for me please?
Oh and my forum is http://www.earthsfirstfury.tk in case you need to look
Any help is much appreciated <3
Edit: Okay I've now downloaded phpBB 3.0.1 but I have no idea what to do with it, as it's just a load of php files and stuff and I also want a good calendar on my forum but I don't know what to do so... yeah... |

Right okay, thanks for the help
Edit:
I've noticed that the screenshot of the admin control panel:
http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/quickstart/quick_installation.php
looks different to mine. Mine only has tabs like 'General' 'Users and groups' 'System' and so on. Is this because I'm using a free host? If so, do I need to pay for a host to be able to use mods and so forth? and how much (roughly) would a basic/decent one cost?
Another edit:
How or where can I learn the language that phpBB uses? |

I don't think that's of the admin control panel but a pic of the phpbb website...
and the best way to figure out which kind've board your running is too..
go to your ACP ( administrative control panel )
> system tab
and it'll show you which version you're running and if it's up to date.
and another alternative would be
> general tab
look at your "board statistics" which would be right in the middle of the page..it'll have "statistic and value" ..at the bottom ( under statistic ), you'll see "board version" and under value the current board your running which should say "3.0.." somthing.
and I don't "believe" you have to pay in order to use MODS...I'm fairly new at this myself so I'll have to do a little reasearch on that subject..
I guess it comes down to figuring out which directory particular mods and hacks go to. I'm asking in different thread on the matter right now and hopefully this will clarify it ... |

Next to board version it says n/a, so I don't have a particular version of phpBB yet?
How do I get a version of phpBB onto my site?
Edit: Is there anyone I could get direct help from rather than spamming up these forums with my noob questions? |

You're using a free forum service, which probably means you don't have your own ftp-access so you can't install any mods yourself.
For all questions and support you should go here: http://support.makeforum.org/ |

If you want a version of phpbb on your site go to phpbb.com and download one, it has the phpbb3 full package on there. But you are going to need your own hosting service ...
I suggest x10hosting.com |
