Hi guys!
As Patrick advised some time ago, I decided to post my history site for people to review!
I fell vicitm to the Freeola server crash about a month ago and, with Patrick's brilliant and vital help, I am slowly getting it back to how it used to be, although I'm stuck with how do complete the last few tweaks.

Any advice is grateful. |

That looks good.
I would like to see the background fixed though so the forum itself scrolls over the top of it and I dont know if you have tried to modify a prosilver version of it but I really think it would look good made on a prosilver based template.
The font size is huge and I personally would look to make it smaller. I am not sure what is causing that problem but it appears to also affect some images on the idex page, putting them "out of whack".
There are quite a few other little problems that I see that need to be fixed and the first is that forums are not accessible by permissions to guests and that is a turn off to people who may be interested in joining.
Still, the overall design concept is good and as I said, I would love to see it based on prosilver and with a fixed background.
Keep working on it and I am sure it will eventually turn out the way you envisage. _________________ ~HG~

Hi HG
Yes, many of the points you made I wanted to change, but lack the phpbb knowledge! Small steps at a time I think?
Thanks |

Thanks very much for both of your expert views and advice, guys.
I am, however, limited by my meagre phpbb knowledge as to how to achieve these objectives! |

Hi Patrick and HG
Well I feel a little embarrassed by my amateur technical ability and constant asking of favours! Lol.
But yes, I agree, when I view my forum on my own PC the resolution seems ok, but on my girlfriend's PC it appears as HG said, out of whack!??
There are about a dozen things I'd like to change but, as the site has crashed twice during the last 5wks, I'm reticent to dare to alter the stylesheet much withut expert advice. |

Think what you have come up with the axe is brilliant. Really like how you have changed the font on the index, each topic in red seems very effective to my eyes. The images as well. One of the best forums I have seen for "flow" - real nice feel to it.
The resolution does appear to be out, you could play around with your table width in overall header (think correct place to do the adjustment ?)
I'm a fan of the self adjusting width, new industry standard for forums is around 880 so mine was set up with accordance with this though.
The login, register could be shifted to sit in where the current time bar is, on the left, making use of the nice light background.
For the new posts, no new posts at the bottom incorporate into the log in bar at the bottom to take advantage of the light background or have a separate background/box.
Finally would use something like fast stone photo resizer and reduce the depth of your glorious header image for fast loading times and to give an overall balance visually with header and index. Perhaps center it or extend the width, adjusting your table width would also help in this area. Your site title would "Pop" more on the black background. The discussing history part on the "camouflage side".

Questions and favours is what makes this site tick in the main, never be embarrassed, without questions there is no need for a support forum.
We all started out the same way, life's a balance, some have a natural technical "bent", others marketing or the important people skills for running a successful community. Main thing is we all work in helping one another to obtain our individual objectives for our communities.
You look to be well on your way, play around with your CSS etc, long as you place an original copy on your hard-drive no harm will come about.
Your creative eye for a neat flow is not something I believe cannot readily be taught, codeing yes.

Thanks Terrano!
I agree with all you say, plus the previous comments above, it's actually learning to do all of the many things without messing up! I do download my backups now, so will experiment.
I usually Googled the net to get where I have so far, but I'll also ask if I get stuck!
Thanks again. |
