Is phpBB2 safe to use?

If I use the latest version of phpBB2 on sourceforge, is it safe to use?

I have a forum I am starting, and phpBB2 is a lot easier, less clutter, than the forums today

It is generally recommended that for new communities, you use the latest version of the software because it is presently maintained. If you are a competent programmer, you may be willing to take it into your own hands, but if you are not, you are generally best served with the latest version of the software.

To my knowledge there is no 2.0.24
2.0.23 is i think the last phpbb2 version.
And i think its pretty save to use.
