Hello! I just registered on this forum because a friend of mine has a phpbb forum. I'm not admin, but I do help him tweak the forum with hacks. I've downloaded several hacks from here and now it was time I joined
Anyways; on our forum, guest posting is allowed and we really want to keep it that way. The problem is that our members would like to have some sort of posibility to ignore users. Now we already installed the very powerful Ignore User hack but unfortunately it's inneffective against guests obviously.
So this question may sound totally crazy and noobish to you, but is there a way to give the members the possibility to ignore not only a certain member, but also all posts made by a certain IP address? That way, certain guests can be ignored too.
We're thinking about upgrading to phpbb3 in the future but for now we'd need this for phpbb2. I know we could simply turn off guest posting, but that's not what we want. Maybe it's simply impossible to make such a hack but hey, at least I tried |

Allowing guests to post and then ignoring them seems a bit odd to me.
If you tried Ignoring by IP address then the chances are that you would be blocking thousands of potential guests.
I am not sure how the Ignore User hack works so I cant elaborate on what would be needed to get it to work the way you want it to. _________________ ~HG~

in both phpBB2 AND phpBB3 users can be banned by IP
in phpBB2 ACP > Ban Control > Ban one or more IP addresses or hostnames but as HG says - this is likely to net more than your target user |

and many people get a new IP each time they go online.
AOL ( and others ) get new IPs at random while they are online.
so, doing anything by IP is a complete waste of time.
