Receive help with the installation and customization of the appearance of your phpBB 2, including templates and graphics. Tutorial: Installing a New Template
I am completely new to phpBB. My hosting company offers only phpBB2, and I have installed it. I have successfully changed the template logo to my logo, but how do I setup a link to return people to my website after they are done with the message boards? Sorry if this is so elementary. I did some searching, but couldn't find something this (assumed) simple.
It's definitely recommended that you use phpBB 3 for a new installation.
That said, to answer your question, you can add a link in overall_header.tpl, which will be in your template folder. If it is a default installation, this is /templates/subSilver. .tpl files are HTML files and you can add a link like you would in any other HTML page.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
So can I use phpBB3 even though my hosting company only offers phpBB2? Is there a reference on these boards to show me how to install the BB from scratch?
Thx for teh overall_header.tpl answer, I will check it out
My pleasure. It's hard to say, but what it sounds like is your host has a piece of software that can install other applications for you. In this case, phpBB 2.
You can probably install phpBB 3 on your own and it includes documentation within the .zip file on how to install it. Plus, if you need help or have any questions, you are welcome to ask for help here!
Hi Patrick,
I have the same problem like webracer. Do I really still need to install phpBB3? Is phpBB2 cannot be? I ask this because I don't know to use the phpBB3 yet. Is this phpBB3 has similarity with phpBB2?
It's not that you need phpBB 3, but that it is the currently maintained version of phpBB. So, if you are starting a website, it is the choice to go with, if you want to use phpBB.
