Cannot get a good copy of my database

Hello, I need some advice. I am trying to move to a new host. I've upgraded my forum script to v.2.0.23 and updated the database. I've tested it and all is working as it should. I need to move it to a new host that supports the latest php & mySQL versions before I can update the script to phpbb 3. My database is 96.5mb so I used putty to get a backup and then downloaded it to my computer. Then I zipped it up and uploaded it to the new server. They installed it for me, but it is not a complete database. It is missing 14 tables.

I do not have any support from the original server and need to get the database on my own. Can anyone tell me how to retieve a complete copy of my database from my vps server? I am at my wits end.

What 14 tables are you missing? I can't help you with getting a copy of the database, but maybe those tables aren't some of the vital ones or can be recreated through other means.

Hello Thoul, thank you so much for your reply. Although a raw copy of phpbb 2.0.23 may not use some of these tables, I would like to keep them because I intend to reinstall some of the mods.

I am missing:
_search_wordmatch
_sessions
_session_keys
_smilies
_themes
_themes_name
_topics
_topic_viewdata
_topics_watch
_user_groups
_users
__vote_desc
_vote_results
_vote_voters
_words
_xdata_auth
_xdata_data
_xdata_fields

It appears that putty only copied down to a certain point and left the rest of tables. I am trying to do some more research on my own and found that perhaps I should use mysqlhotcopy. My system is Unix and it does use MyISAM. I just looked on my server to see what was in the bin directory and I see all the sql folders. It includes mysqldump & mysqlhotcopy. I probably need to log into the server via shell access in order to use either one, but this I haven't figured out yet. Although my head is swimming right now, I am learning and learning is good.

Eh, yeah, getting a more full copy of the database is going to be your best option in this case. Since you're missing the users and topics tables, that's really the only option.

It looks like putty stopped after one of the search tables. I'm not sure if you can do this, but if so I'd recommend trying to use putty again, but leave the two search tables out of the backup (one is _search_wordmatch; I think the other is _search_wordlist or something like that). Those two tables tend to be the largest in most forums, but can be repopulated with a mod. You can probably get all the other tables if the search ones are excluded.

Hi Thoul, yes I agree. I've decided to allow my new server to transfer the database. Hopefully, all will work just fine. Original database will be left on the old server in case of any problems. I'm just running out of time.

You have acces to phpMyAdmin? You can export a copy of your database from there.
