well, everyone here is using phpbb2. that is what this whole forum is about.
getforum.org is one of those free board hosts I guess.
you can't do anything with your board when you host with one of those free places. you do not have access to the files so you can't install any MODs. you can not even get a backup of the database ( without paying for it ) so that you can move to a real web host account.
so, maybe if you ask a specific question about something, we can help you out.

brandonmccoy,
Thanks for the question.
Well, as lumpy said, to install hacks, you need to have the ability to access your phpBB files, at least and, with some hacks, you even need to be able to access the database that your phpBB data (members, posts, etc.) is housed in.
So, you need to get in a situation where you can do that.
As an alternative, many free forum hosts allow you to requests that hacks be installed and they may or may not do it. You may want to give that a try.
Good luck.
Thanks,

and keep in mind that the free hosts will also charge you for a database backup ( if they even know how to give you one ) . you will need that when their site goes down because they don't pay their hosting bills and you lose all your posts, members, etc.
http:webhostingtalk.com is a good place to get pretty good reviews of hosting companies.

Though I wouldn't use a free host myself, generally speaking, they offer a service and there are some good ones out there and some ones that offer free database backup, I'm sure, as well.
Really, it's not so much a forum host thing as a host thing in general, applying to simple web hosting, as well. There are good hosts and bad hosts. Bad hosts could disappear like lumpy said, just like a bad free forum host could, and you could lose all of your data. So, regardless of if you use a remotely hosted forum or a normal hosting solution, it's still the right idea to have regular backups of your database.
Thanks,
