Hey all,

I have an idea for something that I'd like for phpBB 3. I don't think it's too hard, but I don't know if anybody would be willing to take it on.

Basically, on my forums, my staff has contact templates that are used for contacting any members regarding violations of our guidelines, etc. The way it works now is that they need to cut/paste or copy/paste those templates into the message to send out. I would like to make this easier.

What I would like is a drop down menu shown on the new PM/PM reply page that is shown to moderators and up only. In this drop down will be a list of templates that I will decline. They are like letters, in a way and they are prewritten. Then, the staff member can select the template and it will add that template to the PM text box automatically.

If anyone would be willing to create this, that would be awesome. I appreciate your time.

Thanks,

Patrick

Thanks for the replies.

Marian... it could be. I just really want that one function with a drop down menu, not so much actions, etc. Does that hack do that? Also, is it compatible with 3.0.1?

I appreciate your time.

Thanks,

Patrick

Sorry I don't know that. I guess you'd better ask in that thread...

Just thought that I'd bring this up. This would definitely be a useful feature, I think.

Thanks,

Patrick

Would the moderator supposed to be able to edit the text or would it be the standard text only that is supposed to be sent?

just wondering as if it would be editable, it be difficult to do it for multi-language boards although editable would give you much more possibilities to have standard text yet personalize it/have it more specific somewhat.

i dont have the time for this now but further down the road would probably look into it (if noone else had) as this would be useful on one of my boards too...

Hey lefty74,

Thanks for the reply.

I would actually be the one to specify the templates that appear in the drop down. And then when the selected it, that text would actually be injected into the PM text box, like any other text. So, they could edit it at that point (like they would write or edit any PM), but they wouldn't be able to do anything else with it.

They would need to edit it to add a quote from the removed message and make an adjustment, if they need it, once it's in the PM box. And the template should be added after whatever text is already in the text box. So, if they select one template, then select another, the second one would go after the first.

But, they wouldn't need to edit it before it was pasted into the text box.

Hope that makes sense. If you have any other questions, please feel free.

I appreciate your time and consideration.

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,
I had the same need in the past but I solved it in a different way... which is even multilanguage ready...

Instead of adding a dropdown I have created some buttons in the BBCode editor linked to JavaScript (language dependent) which insert the text in the message box.

This feature is integrated into Icy Phoenix and if you want to have a demo I can provide it.

To add templates is really easy... you need just to compile the JavaScript and then add a button to the template (but you can also decide for a select box...) being shown only for moderators.

If you want to have further details I can try to help you.
