Interview

A lot of people know you as a hack and style author. Can you tell us more about who you are, beyond that, personally and professionally?

My name is Ayman, 34, from Egypt and I have worked in the field of information technology for ten years. I don't consider my profession to be my phpBB work, so far.

How did you end up developing for phpBB?

I just started with a free phpBB forum service and created my first ever community with this free service (which was Jconserv if I remember correctly). Every thing seemed interesting to me, so I signed up for my first web hosting account and started to play around with phpBB. At first, I found it very funny to work with a template. Then, I started visiting phpBB.com and phpBBHacks.com to learn more. I downloaded many mods from phpBBHacks.com and, after much care and testing, created my first mod, then my first style and phpBBegypt was my next step and now I'm hosting a popular phpBB resource. It is great. :)

Your most downloaded creation currently available on phpBBHacks.com is Ads in phpBB with 9,985 downloads. What led you to create it and what do you think about it's popularity?

What I can say about the Ads in phpBB mod is that many people need an easy way to integrate ads into his or her forum, so that's why I made it and I think it was simple enough for everybody to install, as well.

phpBBHacks.com is 10 years old. Your first submission to the database was on November 7, 2006. What thoughts or memories does that passage of time bring up for you?

Great memories. You can not imagine my happiness when you approved it in your system. It was like a dream come true for me. I have always looked to phpBBHacks.com as the main source for phpBB fans.

Depending on your perspective, whether you are a phpBB user, an author or someone else, phpBBHacks.com may hold a different meaning and offer something different to each individual person. When you think about this site and community, what comes to mind for you personally?

phpBBHacks.com means a lot for me. I see your site as the main source for phpBB fans and, to say it in just a few words: your website is awesome and a run professionally.
